I want witty and fast-paced narrative. Please don't go the route of Tolkien or Paolini and stop to describe every last tree and flower, twig and leaf. Unless those things are going to attack me, I don't care. Scenery should be described in under two paragraphs. More than that and I may as well be reading a nature magazine.
I also want clean fantasy. I've read too many good stories that were tainted by not-so-subtle innuendos and flat-out raunchiness. If I wanted to read that, I'd buy a book with shantily-clad people on the cover.
I also like stories that have a message--something that I can take away from the book, that gets me to think.
And did I mention witty stuff? I like a lot of wit.
