I want the same thing from any book that I read. I want it to pull me in so thoroughly that I don't want to put the book down to do real life crap. However, I will go get my money back if the ending sucks. Same with a movie. I do NOT like sad ending movies or books, and I do NOT like 'twisted' ending movies or books. I am a happily ever after reader. Neither twisted nor sad endings satisfy me. For example, if you saw the movie "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo", that's a perfect example of a complete crap ending. Worthless movie, total waste of time. I saw it free and wanted to be paid for the time I wasted on it, lol. So yeah. It must suck me in and keep me there, and then it must leave me feeling positive afterward. But that's my standard for all books that I read. Granted, good grammar, spelling, and punctuation help. They can totally jar you out of a book if they're too wretched. Beyond that, which once upon a time was considered a standard, basic necessity... it's the immersion factor and the happy ending.
